Mastercard Debuts Agent Connect and Expands Agent Suite for Merchants
On 9 September 2026 Mastercard introduced Mastercard Agent Connect, a single integration linking merchants, AI agents, digital platforms and payment providers, and updated Agent Suite for Merchants to make merchant-defined product data readable by agents. Mastercard also said it will make Anthropic's commerce agent blueprint available to merchants.

EMVCo Proposes an Intent Layer for Card-Based Agentic Payments
On 1 September 2026 EMVCo released a draft EMV Agentic Payments Framework for Specifications for public comment, proposing a shared layer called Intent Services that would let payment participants register, reference, retrieve and manage consumer-authorised intent before, during and after an agent-initiated transaction. The comment period closes 30 September 2026.

Anthropic Publishes an Open Commerce Agent Blueprint, and Leaves Payment to the Merchant
On 2 September 2026 Anthropic released an open reference blueprint for building shopping and merchant agents on Claude, with Accenture, Mastercard and Visa as ecosystem partners and a Shopify implementation over UCP and Sign in with Shop. The shopping agent builds a cart and hands it to the merchant's own checkout; Anthropic supplies no payment rail.

AWS Makes Bedrock AgentCore Payments Generally Available, with x402 and MPP Support
On 18 August 2026 AWS moved Amazon Bedrock AgentCore payments from preview to general availability, adding Machine Payment Protocol support alongside x402, an 'upto' spending-ceiling scheme, and payment sessions whose spend caps are enforced deterministically at the infrastructure layer.

Ninth Circuit: The User, Not the AI Company, Accesses a Site Under the CFAA
On 4 August 2026 the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit vacated the preliminary injunction against Perplexity's Comet assistant, holding that the customer, not Perplexity, accesses Amazon's computers under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. It is the first US federal appellate decision on agentic AI and the CFAA, and the court noted that Amazon can still regulate access through its own terms of service.

Cloudflare Sets Out a Four-Part Agentic Internet: Readable, Discoverable, Callable, Payable
On 6 August 2026 Cloudflare published its plan for an agentic internet built on four primitives, opened a developer preview of WebMCP, and two days earlier announced Cloudflare Wallets and cloudflare.pay to give AI agents an identity and a spend-limited stablecoin balance. It is an infrastructure-layer move built on open standards rather than a platform checkout.

MoonPay Launches PayBox, a Payment Vault That Runs Inside Claude and ChatGPT
MoonPay launched PayBox on 29 July 2026, a payment vault that installs as a connector inside Claude and ChatGPT and lets the assistant prepare and execute payments. It combines card payments, which MoonPay says run through Visa's agentic commerce protocol, with x402 payments to online services, and it places payment authority with the customer rather than with an AI platform's checkout or a merchant's storefront.

Coinbase Turns On Agent Payment Acceptance for Its Business Customers
Coinbase announced on 23 July 2026 that Coinbase Business customers can accept USDC payments from AI agents through the x402 standard with no extra setup, alongside a new x402 SDK for developers and expanded agent trading tools. It is the first time a major platform has offered merchant-side acceptance of agent payments as a default product feature rather than a pilot.
